Costa ‘yet to request Spain switch’

Diego Costa has reportedly yet to officially request that he be considered for selection to the Spanish national team.

In order to complete the Brazilian-born striker’s switch of allegiance to La Roja, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) are seen as waiting on two documents.

The first is certification from the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) to confirm that they have not capped the player in any official competition, with it seen that this is still delayed.

The second document is believed to be an official request in writing from the Atletico Madrid man asking to be considered for selection by the RFEF.

However, on from comments that indicated his commitment wasn’t yet 100 per cent, AS report that Costa has yet to provide this request.

Spain are next in line to try and call up the 25-year-old for the November international break, although with only friendlies to run until next summer’s World Cup, his switch cannot be made official for a while yet.

Both the RFEF and Coach Vicente del Bosque have commented on their belief that Costa has chosen Spain.
