Moreno handed Spain call-up

Sevilla’s Alberto Moreno has been handed a first call-up to the Spain senior squad, as Vicente del Bosque names the group to play Belarus and Georgia.

For La Roja’s closing World Cup qualification matches this month to be played at home, Under-21 international Moreno has been handed a first call to the senior side.

He is joined in the back-line by the returning Juanfran Torres and Gerard Pique, whilst Nacho Fernandez drops out after last month’s debut.

Jordi Alba is out with injury, whilst Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta is again overlooked, after struggling for playing time so far this term.

Midfield sees Javi Martinez, Thiago Alcantara and Xabi Alonso all still absent through respective continued recoveries from injury.

Subsequently, Mario Suarez has retained his place, as has Atletico Madrid teammate Koke Resurreccion and Real Madrid playmaker Isco.

Fernando Torres misses the selection after being ruled out for three weeks with a knee injury sustained this midweek, whilst Diego Costa’s clearance to change allegiance has not yet come through.

Santi Cazorla is also absent through injury, whilst Roberto Soldado is another to drop out of the group, with Juan Mata notably returning despite struggling for regular game-time with Chelsea.

Spain squad to face Belarus and Georgia: Casillas, Reina, Valdés, Arbeloa, Juanfran, Piqué, Albiol, Ramos, Monreal, Alberto Moreno, Busquets, M. Suárez, Xavi, Iniesta, Koke, Isco, Pedro, Navas, Fabregas, Negredo, Mata, Silva, Villa
