Mikel Gonzalez has asserted that whilst Real Sociedad recognise the level they are at, they are treating their Champions League opener like any other game.
La Real welcome Shakhtar Donetsk to Anoeta on Tuesday night in their first taste of group stage action in the competition in a decade.
“We are looking forward to this and calmly so,” Gonzalez mused to reporters pre-game.
“We have been playing together for a while now and we are relaxed. If we do things well, we can beat anyone. We are calm.
“This is what has provided us with victories against Lyon and others last year.
“Shakhtar is a very nice game because for almost everyone it is the first of its kind that we will face in our careers.”
The defender recognised that things have stepped up a gear after defeating Lyon in the Play-off round.
“Everything has changed, even the decorations in the stadium, yes. But, our preparations and how we go into the game are the same.
“Certainly though, this is another stage, the top level and there is a sense of glamour. We are very happy to play at such a high level. As always, we will try to do our best.”
