Higuain: You suffer when not playing

Gonzalo Higuain has admitted his frustration felt when at Real Madrid in not holding a regular spot in the team.

The Argentine moved to Napoli in a €37m move this summer to end six-and-a-half years at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Reflecting on his reasons for wanting to leave the Spanish capital, the 25-year-old mused on the continued competition for a first-team shirt with Karim Benzema.

“I was very happy in Madrid during some moments, but less happy in others,” Higuain has reflected this week to La Sexta.

“You suffer when you don’t get to play for some time, as you do when you have to share games with Karim Benzema.

“You played one game and then not the next…”

Higuain is seen by Napoli fans as the club’s direct replacement for Edinson Cavani.

“The fans show me their support on a daily basis here in Naples.

“But the Madrid fans also stood by me during all of my seven years in Blanco. I will always be grateful.”
