Cerezo unveils Atleti stadium plans

Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo has unveiled the plans for a new stadium, admitting he wanted to do it celebrating an Olympic victory.

Madrid lost their bid to host the 2020 Olympic Games on Saturday, going out in the first round of voting, with Tokyo eventually taking the crown.

Despite that though, the Rojiblancos are still going ahead with their new ground, and have unveiled some details.

“We wish we were celebrating the announcement that Madrid were hosting the 2020 Olympic Games,” he told reporters.

“We wanted to present this as the Olympic Stadium, but that was not possible.”

Chief Executive Migel Angel Gil Marin went on: “Atletico will complete the construction of the new stadium for the 2016-17 season.

“The new stadium will have 70,000 fans and about 4,100 parking spaced.”
