‘Atleti not a selling club’

Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo denies suggestions that the Rojiblancos are a selling club.

The 2013-14 La Liga champions have enjoyed a period of huge success under Coach Diego Simeone, but despite regularly winning trophies in recent seasons they have continued to lose high profile players to supposedly bigger European clubs.

However, the Vicente Calderon chief remains adamant that the club will begin the upcoming campaign in good shape and is confident they can repeat their successes of recent years.

“Undoubtedly important and excellent players have left and important and excellent players are also going to arrive,” Cerezo told reporters.

“We will go into the season in very good shape. Today I had the chance to see the players and the Coach and they are excited about having a great season like the last one, the one before that and the one before that.

“Atletico is not a selling club, it is a buying club. What happens is that players play where they want to play.

“When a player wants to play for another team there is a very low chance of keeping him.

“Since we won the League players have left, but there are also others who have replaced the ones who have left very well. It’s not something that worries me.”
