Cerezo expects El Cholo to stay

Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo has reiterated his belief that boss Diego Simeone is going nowhere in the near future.

Simeone has had some of Europe’s top clubs casting their eyes his way after the success he has enjoyed with Los Rojiblancos over recent seasons, but Cerezo feels the Argentine is a man of his word and will remain at the Vicente Calderon.

“Simeone has a contract with three years still to run and he is a gentleman as well as a man of his word,” he told Directo Marca.

“We will have El Cholo with us for some time yet. We also have a magnificent team and there are no problems with any of the players.

“The club is delighted with the squad he has at his disposal. We have no intention of selling anybody in the transfer window, while it is virtually impossible we will be bringing in reinforcements.”

Cerezo also commented on Atleti’s chances of winning La Liga this season and feels it is more difficult this time around than it was last year.

“The League isn’t as easy to win as in past seasons. Last year there were three teams in it but this year there are five fighting for the title.

“There are some years when you can’t win it. We are in a good situation right now and hopefully we will still be there at the end of the season,” he concluded.
