Jonas wants 20 goals

Jonas Goncalves is hoping to reach at least 20 goals scored for Valencia this season, as he reflects on the ‘urgency’ the team have in facing Real Betis.

The 29-year-old is one of Los Che’s most senior forwards for the season in the wake of Roberto Soldado’s summer sale to Tottenham, and is keen to take on the burden of scoring goals.

“It would be great to score 20 goals this year. During the last two seasons I have managed 19 and I would like to beat that,” Jonas reflected to reporters this week.

“Twenty would be an important figure for me, but I hope to manage more.”

The Brazilian managed two this weekend in a 4-2 friendly win against Real Valladolid.

“I am happy for that friendly, it was good to pick up the pace with the minutes played and also for those who have not played as much to gain some confidence.

“The match was good in this respect for everyone. For me, also, because I scored twice and took some confidence from it.

“We played with intensity and seriousness because we all want to play in the team.”

Los Che travel out to Real Betis this coming weekend in a game between two teams who have started the season with few points on the board.

“Yes, it is a game of urgency, because both need to win. Playing there is always difficult. We won last season and hopefully we can win again and climb up the table.

“It is a game in which both teams really need the points.”
