Madrid wanted to sell Khedira

Real Madrid officials were reportedly keen to sell Sami Khedira ahead of Mesut Ozil this summer, but for the timing.

Ozil was sold on the last day of the transfer window to Arsenal in a €45m deal, just as Manchester United came in with an offer for his compatriot Khedira.

Carlo Ancelotti was, report Ecodiario, consulted on United’s bid for Khedira and indicated his desire to keep hold of the 26-year-old due to Xabi Alonso’s long term injury and Asier Illarramendi’s struggles so far with fitness.

Whilst it is believed that Madrid’s preference was for Khedira to be shipped out over Ozil, the former remained as, with Ancelotti’s requirement for numbers in central midfield, there was not enough time to then bring in a replacement.
