Valencia attempted Mata deal

Valencia reportedly twice tried in the final week of the transfer window to re-sign Juan Mata from Chelsea.

The Spanish playmaker was strongly linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer amid increased competition for places and reports that Jose Mourinho was not keen on him.

It was a situation that reportedly alerted Los Che, who through sporting director Braulio Vazquez, are reported to have contacted Chelsea at least twice in the last week.

Ahead of yesterday’s closure of the summer transfer market, which has seen Mata stay with The Blues, Valencia seemingly enquired over a possible loan move for the 25-year-old.

Reportedly assessing their financial capacity to pay at least a majority share of his salary, the Mestalla outfit were apparently hopeful of taking the playmaker back for at least the one year.

However, around Chelsea’s involvement in the UEFA Super Cup last week, it is believed that Valencia were informed that Mata was not available on loan and only transferable in a permanent deal, something that Los Che were seen as either unable or unwilling to fund.
