Spain lose Busquets, Inigo

Spain have lost Sergio Busquets and Inigo Martinez through injury and in their place call up Javi Garcia and Nacho Fernandez.

Busquets and Inigo were both confirmed by Barcelona and Real Sociedad respectively as having suffered differing thigh injuries.

Where Barca described Busquets’ strain as putting him at risk of further injury, La Real labelled their 22-year-old defender’s injury as a grade I strain of the back of the thigh.

Subsequently, Vicente del Bosque has lost both from La Roja’s upcoming World Cup qualifier with Finland in Helsinki this Friday, and next week’s friendly with Chile in Geneva.

In place of Busquets comes Manchester City’s Javi Garcia, whilst surprisingly, Real Madrid’s young Nacho has been handed a call-up.

Spain have a number of absentees in midfield and defence during this international break, with Carles Puyol, Xabi Alonso, Javi Martinez and Thiago Alcantara out injured already and Gerard Pique suspended.
