Espanyol snap up Colombian hitman

Espanyol have completed the season-long loan signing of Colombian striker Jhon Cordoba from Mexican outfit Jaguares de Chiapas.

The 20-year-old has passed a medical at Cornella El-Prat and ends boss Javier Aguirre’s quest for a cheap, young frontman to bolster his attacking options.

Cordoba, who made 17 appearances for Jaguares de Chiapas with three goals, was also a target for Fulham boss Martin Jol with the Premier League side understood to have been working to secure him a work permit.

However, Espanyol have won the race for the signature of a player who starred for the Colombian Under-20 side at the 2013 South American Youth Championship, where he led his country to glory.

A player who has often been compared to former Chelsea hitman Didier Drogba due to his similar build and strength, Cordoba is known for his powerful shot and skill with the ball at his feet.
