Butragueno: A balanced group

Emilio Butragueno has reflected on the competitiveness he sees in Real Madrid’s group handed out in the Champions League this year.

Los Blancos, who are beaten semi-finalists in each of the last three editions of the tournament, face Juventus, Galatasaray and Copenhagen in Group B of the competition this season.

“The Champions League is a thrilling competition. It will be an even and balanced group,” former striker and current director Butragueno reflected.

“Nobody can be over confident in Europe and it will be an exciting group. They will be exciting matches against Juventus.

“We have played many times and they are a club with a lot of tradition that have improved immensely since Conte’s arrival on the bench.

“They are solid as a club and as a team are a very cohesive, with a great mentality and are hard to beat.

“We played against Galatasaray last year and found them to be a very strong team at home.

“We went there with a very good result from the first leg, but suffered a lot in the second half and saw how their crowd lifts them and what they can achieve with that lift.

“Copenhagen may be the most unknown team, but will be very dangerous at home.”
