Remi Garde admitted that Lyon quickly lost confidence in their Champions League Play-off round defeat to a Real Sociedad with ‘interesting potential’.
The Ligue 1 outfit were defeated 2-0 on the night at San Sebastian and 4-0 on aggregate, leaving their Coach with no complaints for La Real’s progression to the group stages of the competition.
“I thought it was possible at first because our play was good,” began Garde to reporters post-match.
“We had some chances, but as the game went on we lost confidence and I thought less about us getting into the group phase.
“Real were well organised, they have been a very good team. We could not have met a stronger opponent at this stage.
“They had good organisation, they were very strong, they have a very interesting potential.
“We have fought for this, but the truth is that we know La Real have been a strong team and we have no objection to their progression to the next round.”
