Garde: Lyon can make it through

Remi Garde believes that his Lyon team are capable of mounting a comeback at Real Sociedad tonight.

The Ligue 1 outfit are chasing a 2-0 deficit heading into tonight’s Champions League Play-off second leg, which will determine qualification for the group stage of the competition.

Even with the score-line, Lyon’s Coach has spoken of his belief in his side to progress through.

“For us, the first leg was a hard blow, we did not expect it, we have had to raise ourselves during the week, but we are ready to face this leg,” introduced Garde in his pre-match conference.

“The result from the first leg forces us to go for the game, and we know that we have the ability to win the game and progress through the round. It will not be easy, they have an advantage and will make it very complicated, but we will not give up.

“Are Real favourites now? I do not look at that, we are just thinking that if La Real were able to score two goals in Lyon, that we can do it here in Anoeta.

“The key has to be to score early and to put them under pressure.

“I have the feeling in the bottom of my heart that every one of my players has the ambition, faith and hope that we can come back and win the tie.”

Garde was asked of Lyon’s decision years ago to turn down a 14-year-old Antoine Griezmann.

“Do we regret it? no, because we cannot catch everyone that comes through the youth team. Then he was scrawny and little and you could not predict that he would be where he is now.

“Now he is really a very valuable player.”
