Di Maria wants Madrid stay

Angel di Maria has said that he is happy to stay at Real Madrid this season, despite increasing competition for places and transfer links away.

The Argentine has been speculated on and off through the summer as on his way out of the Santiago Bernabeu, amid the club’s restructuring in attack.

However, despite the arrival of Isco, anticipated world record signing of Gareth Bale and reputed interest from Arsenal and Galatasaray for Di Maria, it is seen that the 25-year-old is more intent on staying put.

The player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, reportedly indicated to Florentino Perez during earlier negotiations with Tottenham for Bale that, due to Di Maria’s mindset, it would be unwise to include the winger in any player-plus-cash offer.

Di Maria, who is contracted to Madrid through to June 2018, also spoke briefly to AS today.

“I understand that the club is strengthening and they are precise in what they do.

“But I signed up to 2018 just a year ago and my desire is to stay at the Bernabeu.”
