‘We must learn from Elche lesson’

David Zurutuza says that Real Sociedad must take the lessons learned from the weekend draw with Elche into their midweek clash with Lyon.

Ahead of hosting the French this Wednesday in the Champions League Play-off round second leg, the Basques played out a 1-1 draw to newly promoted Elche at the weekend.

“There were two halves. In the first, they scored in the first minute, from a corner and then we created many chances without any good feelings,” reflected Zurutuza to Marca this week.

“Then in the second half, we went for the game. We equalised and pushed for the win. I think the bottom line is good, playing away from home.

“We need to reflect on what we did right and wrong in Elche, but productively and take it in facing to Lyon.

“Lyon lost at the weekend? Well, they are not at their best and we must take advantage of that. It will not be an easy game because they have nothing to lose and will give it everything from the start, so we have to be alive to it and, if we can score a goal, it will make it an uphill task for them.

“It would be good to get into the Champions League, but we have to secure it. Everything is favourable for a great night, but I will tell you if it is after the game.

“We cannot rest on the 2-0 lead. If we get scared, we will have a bad night. We have to play like we usually do, with ease and looking to score goals.

“The Champions League music? After 10 years it will be special to hear it in the stadium again. Let’s see if we can hear it better than in Lyon, we hardly heard it there.

“It will be a special moment in our career, but more so if we win the tie.”
