Arsenal, United eye Ozil situation

Mesut Ozil’s contract impasse with Real Madrid may see Manchester United and Arsenal come in with late bids this summer.

The German has been in talks with Los Blancos over a new deal for a majority of the summer, but has so far failed to reach an agreement.

Whilst speculation has been that Madrid are offering an extension through to June 2019, reports today indicate that the playmaker is pushing for a €2m-a-year salary increase that the capital club have yet to reach.

Currently on €5m a season, Madrid’s perceived reluctance to meet the player’s demands reportedly has his representatives in talks with Manchester United.

The Sun indicate that the Premier League defending champions will face competition from Arsenal, with the London side notably, according to The Sun, ready to pay out €45m to pick up the 24-year-old.

The Gunners have also been linked this week with moves for Angel di Maria and Karim Benzema.
