‘I’m happy, but 90 minutes remain’

Jagoba Arrasate enthused at Real Sociedad’s performance at Lyon on Tuesday night, but reminded his players that another 90 minutes at Anoeta await.

The San Sebastian side ran out convincing 2-0 winners at the Stade de Gerland in this Champions League Play-off round first leg, thanks to remarkable strikes from Antoine Griezmann and Haris Seferovic.

“We would have all signed up for this result before the game and so we are happy, very happy,” Arrasate told reporters post-match.

“But there are 90 minutes to go, we know what we have and we will approach the return game cautiously, despite our advantage.

“We played in a difficult field. We wanted the ball. We have looked towards the goal and we have scored with two beautiful strikes which puts the tie in our favour, but we must reinforce it at Anoeta.

“We are happy. We saw it as a party. Now we will rest, to recover well and afterwards think of Elche. We will prepare for our second League game with the utmost respect.

“Then we will look to the date of August 28, for the return match in the Champions League against Lyon.”
