‘We’ve rejected Kondogbia bids’

Sevilla President Jose Maria del Nido has revealed that the club have no intention of selling Geoffrey Kondogbia this summer.

The Frenchman has been the subject of speculation during the transfer window and L’Equipe are adamant that an offer of around €15m has been made for the player by Monaco this week.

“This year there is no possibility of Sevilla negotiating the departure of Kondogbia,” Del Nido told reporters today.

“If a club were to deposit the player’s clause then it would be an act of aggression, against the club and its President.

“The contract says that the clause must be paid for the footballer. We have already made an offer through [sporting director] Monchi to improve and even extend his contract. We are not thinking about the possibility of him leaving.

“The conversations that Monchi has had with the player’s father and agent have moved between two possibilities, his departure and his staying and fortunately in recent days they have been talking just about him staying. We have received many offers, the last one of €15m has been rejected.”

Del Nido was talking in a week that sees Sevilla face Slask Wroclaw in the Europa League Play-off round, in a two-legged tie for a place in the competition proper.

“To not pass this round would be a disaster for us, with respect to the opponent. Sevilla has to progress through on Thursday.”

The Andalucians head into the midweek off the back of an opening day defeat in La Liga to Atletico Madrid.

“I never like to lose, whilst it is true that you learn from defeats more than victories, but if we had won then we would have obtained a morale boost that would have been good.

“Now we have to show in the field that expectations around the team are true, that the team is good, that the school is strong.

“Is the League just between Barcelona and Real Madrid? Unfortunately, [Barca’s 7-0 win over Levante] only serves to confirm that the distance between the top two and the rest will continue to increase.

“In recent days there have been many voices who understand that the League is between two. It is to the detriment of the competition, to kill the goose that lays the golden egg.

“We are light years away from other Leagues on continent such as Italy and France, where anyone can win against anybody.”
