Marcelino praised Villarreal for picking up three points in their opening fixture of La Liga and admitted that his substitutions helped matters.
The Yellow Submarine marked their return to the top flight with a 3-2 win away to fellow newly promoted outfit Almeria, with late goals from Giovani dos Santos and Jonathan Pereira determining the score.
“It is important to start with a win,” Marcelino commented post match.
“It was a very dynamic game in which each team had good phases that in the end have decided the outcome.
“With the pressure of being the first game of the season and our desire to win, we have been prepared for this game.
“We have not been loose in the field and this is with Almeria playing at home.”
Marcelino notably used all three of his substitutions before the hour mark.
“It is clear that the changes have been good for us this time.
“We have been given the aerial presence and the speed that we needed and since they were physically loaded, we have managed to do more damage.”
