‘Lyon my club since I was a kid’

Real Sociedad’s Antoine Griezmann has reflected on his affinity for Tuesday evening’s Champions League opponents Lyon.

La Real are preparing for tonight’s Play-off round first leg at the Stade de Gerland which will go towards determining which team will take a place in the group stages of the UEFA competition.

For the San Sebastian side’s French winger, the match is also special for his childhood relationship with the Ligue 1 outfit.

“For me, Lyon has been my club since I was a kid,” Griezmann told UEFA’s official website pre-match.

“I used to come to see all the Champions League matches here with my father. Seen from Spain, Lyon are a club that counts, a historic club.”

The 22-year-old has already trained on the pitch during work with the French national side at youth level.

“The moment I stepped on the Stade de Gerland pitch, I felt a lot of emotions. I even pointed out the spots in the stands where I used to sit.

“I can't wait until I put my boots on [tonight]. But there's no feeling of revenge – I just want to play.

“This will be my first competitive match in France with Real Sociedad – and to top it off, it'll be a Champions League match.”
