Real Sociedad began the new Primera season with a comfortable 2-0 win over Getafe at Anoeta.

La Real went into the game missing a host of injured players while Coach Jagoba Arrasate, making his full debut in charge of the first team, also left captain Xabi Prieto and highly-rated winger Antoine Griezmann on the bench, seemingly with Tuesday’s Champions League qualifier against Lyon in mind.

The hosts were the first to create the first real chance of the game, Argentine midfielder Chori Castro seeing his effort from a Haris Seferovic cross rattle the crossbar, and Ruben Cardo also came close to scoring when he shot inches over.

However, the San Sebastian side did eventually take the lead three minutes before the break when Carlos Vela ran on to Castro’s through-ball and produced an exquisite chip over goalkeeper Miguel Angel Moya.

Midway through the second half new signing Seferovic doubled the advantage, picking up Vela’s pass to lift his shot over Moya, while Vela himself wasted a good opportunity to make it three late on when he fired his shot wide of the target when free on goal.
