Madrid add Coentrao to Bale bid

Real Madrid have thrown Fabio Coentrao into the equation as they make a last-ditch attempt to land Gareth Bale.

Metro reports that the Spanish giants are ready to launch one last throw of the dice in their attempts to bring the Welsh international to La Liga with an offer of €85m plus full-back Coentrao.

The Portuguese player has made it known he is seeking an exit from the Santiago Bernabeu and Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Villas-Boas is a confirmed admirer of the 25-year-old.

Bale, meanwhile, was forced to sit out Wales’ international friendly with Republic of Ireland in Cardiff on Wednesday with a foot injury and has not featured for Spurs in pre-season.

At the same time, Coentrao does not appear to be part of Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti’s plans for next term and the temptation to take him to White Hart Lane plus the sizeable cash offer may be enough to sway Tottenham to part with their prize asset.
