Koke sees David Villa improvement

Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke believes David Villa has improved since his signing from Barcelona in the summer.

The 21-year-old, who came through Atleti’s youth academy, also says he is excited about the start of the new season and the club’s participation in this year’s Champions League, although he is aware things must be taken step by step.

“Of course we are all looking forward to La Liga and the Champions League but our goal is to focus on things game by game, starting with our next friendly,” explained Koke in an interview with AS.

“The new signings are sure to improve the team, both domestically and in Europe, but Villa’s arrival will make us even more competitive.

“I think he has even improved a lot since he joined us. At first it is difficult for anyone coming in, but he’s looked good so far and adapted very well.”

Koke also commented on the upcoming Supercopa de Espana clashes with Barcelona, although he is reluctant to look too far ahead.

“At the moment we are just concentrating on the next game and this is probably not the time to assess our chances in the Supercopa.

“Even so, I’m excited about playing in it and to win a trophy is always nice,” said Koke, who was asked if he thought Atletico are ready for the new campaign.

“Yes, we can’t wait,” he replied.
