Casillas the key for Ancelotti

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti said goalkeeper Iker Casillas was key to his side’s 3-1 victory over Chelsea in Miami.

Casillas made two crucial saves at the start of the second half as Chelsea looked to force themselves back into the game from a 2-1 deficit, and was praised by Ancelotti at the post-match Press conference.

“Casillas played very well and saved us after the break with some good saves and I’m happy, as I am with the rest of the team’s work.

“We have three great ‘keepers and the good thing is that any one of them can play,” said the Italian, who confirmed the choice of goalkeeper was his and also that, for the next game against Inter on Saturday, Diego Lopez could step in.

Ancelotti reiterated he was pleased with his side’s performance and had special words of praise for two-goal Cristiano Ronaldo.

“We played some great football, particularly in the first half when we dominated with our ball control and efficiency. Then, in the second half, the tempo slowed, which is normal, but Iker was great and helped us win, as did Ronaldo.

“Cristiano had a great match, scored goals and played very well. He is a great professional who works hard and is therefore easy to manage.

“He always responds and is a great leader,” declared Ancelotti, before insisting the work done on the pre-season tour to the United States had so far been to his satisfaction.

“It’s been very positive. We’ve faced some great opponents and there has been a terrific atmosphere inside the stadiums, with some good pitches.

“In the end we won the [International Champions Cup] title, so there’s no doubt it has been a good pre-season,” he added.
