Pepe cagey over Madrid future

Real Madrid defender Pepe continues to be linked with a move to Manchester City but remains guarded over his future intentions.

The Portuguese international worked under City boss Manuel Pellegrini when he was in charge at the Santiago Bernabeu, and the Chilean is looking to strengthen his defence in light of an injury to Matija Nastasic suffered during a pre-season game in Hong Kong.

With Kolo Toure having joined Liverpool in the summer and doubts still persisting over Joleon Lescott’s stay at the club, the 31-year-old is understood to be top of Pellegrini’s shopping list to shore up the middle of his defence.

However, Pepe is staying tight-lipped about his situation at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“I’m a professional. The club left a lot of things [unresolved] at the end of last season but I have a contract to fulfil,” he told reporters on Madrid’s tour to the United States.

“I’m talking to the President of Madrid and my representatives to see what will happen.

“I have a contract, love the club and have a great affection for the people.”
