Depor chief to step down

Augusto Lendoiro has confirmed that he will step down as President of Deportivo after 25 years in the post.

The 68-year-old has overseen the club in some of its most successful and turbulent periods in its history.

But the Turcos chief confirmed on Friday evening that he would be leaving the Riazor.

“We are not going to put the interests of the Board before the interests of the club,” he told a Press conference.

“At the moment, we have all decided to leave but we shall not admit that we are being pushed out because we are being thrown out and that, would be no more, no less than a coup d’état.

“Quite possibly, the moment has come for us to go. I’m sure it has. But we want to leave in our own good time – we won’t be shoved out.

“Whoever comes in to take over must have the shareholders’ vote and that might seem a formality but it’s not.”
