Broadcasters reach Liga deal

Rival television firms Mediapro and Canal + have reached a deal that will ensure the broadcast of Primera and Segunda Division games for the next two seasons.

The two companies had to call in independent mediators, in the form of the International Chamber of Commerce, to resolve a disagreement over broadcast rights for the 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons.

A provisional agreement for these three seasons was actually reached 12 months ago, but broke down this summer as relations between the two parties soured amid Mediapro’s claims of how much to charge Canal + for broadcasting the games.

The agreement reached this week sees Canal + permitted to broadcast all games in the Primera and Segunda Division for the next two seasons in exchange for €88m plus VAT.

Mediapro will shoot and produce matches before handing over the signal to Canal +.
