‘A game to show MLS level’

Laurent Courtois is eager to use LA Galaxy’s friendly with Real Madrid to showcase the strength of the MLS.

The Frenchman, who has just joined the outfit, is preparing along with his teammates for Thursday’s International Champions Cup fixture against Carlo Ancelotti’s team.

“It is a game for the world to see the level that the MLS is at,” former Levante man Courtois told reporters this week.

“We want to win and put on a show, although I say that the most important thing is to win the League and we have a game on Saturday. This will be a match with many changes.”

Galaxy face a first summer preseason without former Madrid man David Beckham on the books.

“Beckham was an important player in the dressing room at Galaxy. He was very generous with all of his teammates here and is loved here. In the media he was unique, but Galaxy is the most important team in the MLS and works well on its image, so in this sense his departure has not been noticed.

“As for the game, perhaps now the team is less predictable, because before everyone was looking and depending on his passes. Now our game is more of a combination.”
