Capello: Higuain has grown

Fabio Capello has reflected on how he has seen Gonzalo Higuain grow into the striker he is today and backs him to do well at Napoli.

The 25-year-old is set to end six-and-a-half years at Real Madrid when his €37m transfer to Napoli is confirmed and he is presented to the media.

Ahead of that, the Coach that was first to work with him at Madrid has commented on how much he believes that the player has developed since.

“When he arrived at Real Madrid, you could see that he had great potential,” Capello told the Corriere dello Sport on Friday.

“But he has grown a lot since then. And he deserves all of the credit because he has worked very hard.

“He was a good and interesting player, now he is a great striker.

“I think Higuain was lucky to be able to play alongside Raul, a player who knew how to be in the right place at the right time in the penalty area.

“I told Higuain to copy Raul’s movement when he didn’t have the ball. I’d say that he listened.”

The Italian tactician backed the striker to be a success at his new club.

“Napoli are a serious and important club, while Higuain is an attacker who scores goals.

“It seems that the marriage has everything necessary in order to bring great satisfaction to both parties.”
