Rafa Benitez has enthused at Napoli’s capture of Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain and explained that he was a necessary recruitment for the Italians’ plans.
The Serie A side are all but signed off on a €37m deal to sign the 25-year-old from Los Blancos and are expected to present him to the media inside the next day or two.
Ahead of that, Higuain’s new Spanish tactician has reflected on just how ‘necessary’ his signing is for Napoli.
“We were looking for a player of quality like him who has played at the highest level,” explained Benitez to the Corriere dello Sport.
“We have signed a player from Real Madrid, a striker who has scored many goals and will fit very well into our system, an attacking system.
“We needed a player like him.
“We are working together to ensure that we have players that we want here.
“We need to sign players that will play well for Napoli for the next three or four years.”
