Morata: A good workout

Alvaro Morata has reflected on Real Madrid’s second preseason game of this summer and on whether the club need to replace Gonzalo Higuain.

The youngster netted a penalty late on for Los Blancos to help Madrid fight from two goals down to record a 2-2 draw at Lyon on Wednesday night. Casemiro netted the equaliser with a header.

“It isn’t right to talk about football due to the sad news of the train crash in Galicia, but this match helped us to pick up the pace,” reflected Morata post-match.

“We have got two goals but we wanted to win and we had a good attitude on the field. We can take it as a good draw. The result does not matter right now. Casemiro asked to take the penalty but I took it, I had a lot of confidence.

“Life under Ancelotti? He has the desire to do well, to win. He likes to play well, and that’s good.”

Gonzalo Higuain is set to leave the club, with Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis yesterday confirming their purchase of the player is all but complete.

“Pipa has always given me a lot of advice and helped me, I wish him luck in his new adventure. I wish him well.

“Do we need another striker? There is Karim, me and Jese here, we can work well, but the team decides whether to sign someone or not. It is up to them what will work best.

“I am glad that Jese has renewed his contract, he is a player that should be here. He has to play for Real Madrid.”
