Campbell won’t return to Betis

Real Betis are reportedly out of luck in their attempts to try and re-sign Joel Campbell from Arsenal this summer.

Los Beticos loaned in the Costa Rica forward for the 2012-13 campaign and his stay proved so successful that it was seen as a contributing reason to Arsenal striking up a ‘collaborative agreement’.

Whilst that agreement reportedly included Betis having first option on loaning players from the Gunners, a deal to return Campbell to the Benito Villamarin is reportedly looking impossible.

Marca understand that Betis are unable to afford the player’s salary for the coming season, having been informed by Arsenal that they would have to fund a majority of it if they wanted him back.

Last season saw the Gunners pay most of Campbell’s earnings, which per year stand at around €900,000.

It is an amount that is reportedly above Betis’ budget, so talks for the 21-year-old’s return are seen as having broken down.
