Higuain left out of Madrid squad

Gonzalo Higuain is a notable absentee from Real Madrid’s squad to play Lyon tonight, as he is expected to complete a move to Napoli.

The Argentine has been linked with a move away from Los Blancos this summer after declaring on the last day of last season his desire to leave after seven years.

Whilst strongly linked over the weekend with Napoli, the 25-year-old still featured for Carlo Ancelotti’s side in their 6-0 win on Sunday night at Bournemouth.

However, with Napoli since reported as on the verge of sealing a deal worth an initial €37m, Higuain has been left out of Madrid’s squad to face Lyon on Wednesday evening.

Reports today are that the striker, who has previously been linked with Juventus and Arsenal this summer, could imminently have his transfer to Serie A announced.

Yesterday in Italy it was alleged that the player’s representatives were meeting with Napoli to thrash out terms of a deal.

Ancelotti has also left out of his plans Fabio Coentrao, at the player’s request on personal grounds, whilst Ricky Kaka is also absent.

Real Madrid squad to face Lyon: Diego Lopez, Adan, Jesus, Pepe, Carvajal, Mateos, Casado, Nacho, Khedira, Ozil, Cheryshev, Di Maria, Isco, Illarra, Casemiro, Quini, Modric, Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema, Morata
