‘No individual bigger than Madrid’

Fabio Capello has backed Carlo Ancelotti to succeed at Real Madrid, whilst advising that no-one can be above the club itself.

Ancelotti has begun preseason this week with Los Blancos, having been brought in to succeed Jose Mourinho on a three-year contract over the summer.

For Madrid’s previous Italian tactician, there is an important mindset to take into the role.

“When you are at the club you have to be aware that Real Madrid are above everyone, the players and the Coach,” Capello commented to Antenna 3 this week.

“You should not be the most important man in Madrid.

“Ancelotti is very smart. He knows how to manage the team. He is a quiet man and experienced, he has very good qualities to lead Real Madrid.

“The most interesting youngsters in the game are in Spain and it is why Madrid have signed them. they have the experience, quality and know the style needed to play in Spain.”

The Italian also reflected on Pep Guardiola’s work at Bayern Munich and how he may change the treble winners.

“There's not much to change, the only thing is that more pressure might be exerted higher up the pitch to get the ball as fast as possible.

“That's what Guardiola will bring, he'll ask the forwards to put the pressure on.”
