‘Ancelotti is special’

Real Madrid’s new goalkeeping Coach Villiam Vecchi has explained Carlo Ancelotti’s pull in convincing him to move across to Spain.

The veteran technician this week joined Ancelotti on Los Blancos’ staff, to reunite after their time working together at Parma and Milan.

“Until a few days ago I was responsible for the goalkeepers in Milan’s youth team and now I am in Madrid. I would still be there if not for Carletto,” reflected Vecchi to the Gazzetta di Reggio this week.

“A few weeks ago I visited Ancelotti in Paris and discussed the possibility of going with him to Madrid. I decided to accept in early July after consultation with my family, because for me it is a sacrifice.

“In Milan, between training sessions and everything else, I was going home. Now I cannot return until early September because Madrid’s schedule is very tight, with European friendlies, the US tour and the start of the League.

“I have put up pictures of my family in my room at Valdebebas. I decided to come for Carletto’s call, his desire to have me at his side. He is a fraternal friend. He is someone special.

“Carlo is good, he has even lost weight. On the technical side, we can speak of the many trophies he has won in three different countries, but the difference is in how he is as a person.

“He now has Zidane at his side, as his assistant, but also nearly as a friend, because they could still play football together…”
