Schuster’s Malaga pass first test

Malaga got pre-season preparations underway with a 1-0 friendly victory over Genk in Belgium.

A first-penalty from Duda after Juanmi had been fouled by defender Kara was enough to give the Andalusians victory in a game played in front of around 10,000 spectators.

Portuguese playmaker Duda recognised afterwards that it had been good run-out for Bernd Schuster’s new-look squad.

“The important thing is that we all pulled together and were able to get some minutes under our belt,” he told reporters.

“The new boss has a similar philosophy to the one we had before, with plenty of touches of the ball, and we have some quality youngsters. I’m happy with my goal and the win.”

New signing Fernando Tissone was also satisfied.

“It was a good game. It was not played with the rhythm we wanted but little by little these kind of games help us to get more playing time.

“Genk are a top team and it was a good result. It was important to win,” said the Argentine.
