Chelsea winger Eden Hazard has revealed that Jose Mourinho tried to sign him when he was in charge at Real Madrid.
The Belgian international was with Lille at the time and was recommended to the Spanish giants by Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane, before eventually joining the Londoners in June 2012 for a reported €40m.
“Mourinho told me he had said to Lille that he wanted me, but it was my intention to remain in France until I was 21 when my game had matured.
“At the time I was aged 19 or 20. Madrid is a fantastic team but I still had to prove myself in the French League.
“I stayed because I didn’t want to leave too soon,” he told reporters.
