€3.5m cash only for Gago

Fernando Gago will have to report back to Valencia for preseason training next week, should a €3.5m cash sale not be arranged.

The 27-year-old midfielder, who only signed for the club last summer, spent the last six months of last season out on loan at Velez Sarsfield.

With the Argentine club failing to agree a price to keep the player, he saw his summer break extended from Mestalla extended, in Los Che’s reported bid to try and tie up a sale, so as not to disrupt the rest of the squad.

However, reports are that the club may see the player back with them come July 23, when he is due in for preseason training, as a transfer has yet to be agreed with any interested party.

It is believed that alongside Velez are Gago’s former club Boca Juniors, and whilst they have come in with an offer matching Valencia’s €3.5m valuation, it has not been accepted.

This is believed in Spain today to be because Valencia are pushing for a cash payment only for the player and are unwilling to accept an instalment-based payment plan, such as that believed to be put forward by Boca.
