Ander Herrera has reflected on his delight at Athletic Bilbao’s work in the transfer market, for strengthening the team with competition for places.
The Basque Country outfit have so far brought in five new faces to the first team squad, much to their young midfielder’s delight.
“We must not forget the important players that have given a lot to Athletic recently, but I believe that the work of the club and their success in the transfer market is going to be seen on the field,” enthused Herrera to reporters today.
“They are standout players, already aware of our philosophy and I am hopeful, are ambitious and excited, because this Athletic has the potential.”
One notable arrival is Benat Etxebarria in midfield.
“Rather than approach it as I would competition for places, I do so from the angle that it benefits the group.
“If Athletic has had a weakness before, is that there has not always been competition, and now we have great rivalry in every position, if you are not attentive, you have someone to replace you.
“It is true that the fans have been disappointed with some departures, but we are here because we want to be, we want to make Athletic greater and want to consolidate the group for a long time, and that takes time.
“The desire and commitment to be here, remains.”
