Barca, Madrid begin preseason

Barcelona and Real Madrid both begin preparations for 2013-14 from today, as players report back for a first day of preseason.

Last season’s League champions and runners-up are both preparing to welcome back a selection of their first team squad members for various fitness assessments today.

Those involved at international level this summer are due back at a later date, with Madrid’s representatives believed to be reporting in on July 22 and Barca’s internationals coming back a week after that on July 29.

Madrid’s remaining staff will today be undergoing a first workout under new Coach Carlo Ancelotti in the afternoon, whilst Barca’s 15 players expected in today will commence training for a second season under Tito Vilanova from tomorrow.

The Catalans face a first friendly of the summer at Lechia Gdansk on Saturday, a day before Los Blancos start their friendly campaign with a trip to Bournemouth.
