‘Barca and Bayern have benefited’

Former Barcelona Coach Carles Rexach can see why Thiago Alcantara has signed for Bayern, but insists that the Catalans have not yet lost out in the deal.

The Spanish midfielder was confirmed yesterday as the subject of a €25m agreement between Barca and the Bavarians and is set to complete a transfer out to Germany this week.

“I am not surprised that Thiago will go to Bayern,” Rexach commented on La Xarxa today.

“The Coach that wanted to sign him is Pep Guardiola, who knows him very well.

“Also, because he is going to another great team, one of the biggest in Europe. Time will tell if he achieves more at Bayern than at Barca.

“If he plays a lot of minutes, triumphs and becomes a indispensable player, then it will always be said that Barca released him at a low price.

“At this moment, Barca like Bayern have benefited. I do not believe that anyone has ‘stolen’ anyone. If anyone had the upper hand then it was Thiago, if he has left it is because he took the decision.”
