New signing David Villa has been confirmed by Atletico Madrid as taking their No 9 shirt for the 2013-14 campaign.
The 31-year-old last week completed a cut-price transfer from Barcelona for just an initial €2m payment.
Villa has traditionally worn the No 7 shirt through his playing career at club and international level and it was speculated that Adrian Lopez would be handing over the number to the new arrival at the Vicente Calderon.
However, Los Colchoneros have confirmed that Villa will instead be taking Radamel Falcao’s old shirt number, 9, for the coming season.
