Koke applauds Villa arrival

Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke has welcomed the club’s capture of David Villa from Barcelona.

Spanish international Villa was picked up for a fee of just €5.1m this week and Koke [pictured, left], fresh from helping the Spain Under-21 side to European Championship glory, believes it will prove to be good business for Los Rojiblancos.

“I don’t know him personally but we’ve all seen him play and he is the Pichichi of Spain.

He will bring us a lot of quality and above all goals, which is what the club wants,” he told AS.

Madrid-born Koke feels it is too early to tell whether or not Diego Simeone’s team will miss Radamel Falcao less following Villa’s acquisition.

“Falcao is Falcao and Villa is Villa. We are just happy a great player has come here who is going to help us a lot.”

The 21-year-old also commented on what he is expecting from next season.

“I hope that at least it’s as good as last year and I can continue to improve on some things.

“I’d like to score more goals or to make the team play more, although I’ll play where the Coach puts me, whether it’s out wide, in midfield or just behind the strikers.

“Wherever it is I’ll need to adapt,” he admitted.
