Mou changed, says Porto President

Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa has remarked at how Jose Mourinho’s conduct at Real Madrid was ‘different’ to when he was Coach at Porto.

The Portuguese club’s President signed Mourinho back in January 2002, before seeing him win successive League titles as well as UEFA Cup and Champions League trophies.

The Dragoes’ chief though, has claimed that the tactician changed during his time at Santiago Bernabeu.

“Mourinho was different at Porto,” he told Marca.

“I never thought that the Mou I knew would behave as he did at Real Madrid. He didn't celebrate when we won the Champions League, but I never had a problem with him.

“He was always very courteous.

“He was ambitious and intelligent. I felt that he was the ideal manager to give us the push we needed.

“Augusto Inacio was [Bobby] Robson's assistant coach. Mou observed and noted everything in a journal.

“He barely took part. Little by little he became more involved in training. He was already the assistant coach by his second season. Then Barça came in for Robson and Mourinho went with him.”
