La Roja remain top of FIFA rankings

The Spanish national team continue to top the latest FIFA rankings despite defeat to Brazil in the Confederations Cup Final.

Germany remain in second spot while Colombia climb to third, the country’s best-ever position, after some outstanding performances in the South American World Cup qualifiers.

Brazil rise 13 places to ninth after their latest exploits, with Confederations Cup semi-finalists Uruguay and Italy both going up the rankings into 12th and sixth respectively.

In addition to the 16 Confederations Cup games played since the last rankings were announced, there have also been 89 World Cup qualifying matches and 29 friendlies played.

This year has seen a total of 440 international games played and the next FIFA rankings will be published on August 8.
