Madrid still keen on Gundogan

Real Madrid have stepped up their chase for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, according to Marca.

The Madrid-based newspaper claims the 22-year-old had been in the Spanish capital for talks two weeks ago and is one of Madrid’s top targets, although bringing him before the start of next season could prove tricky.

Los Blancos are understood to have first refusal on Gundogan’s teammate Robert Lewandowski in 2014, provided they do not make a move for the Polish international this summer, and this could see the Bundesliga outfit soften their stance on German international Gundogan.

The Spaniards believe the Dortmund player could be lured to the Santiago Bernabeu, if not for next season then the following one, and feel he is the natural replacement for the ageing Xabi Alonso.
