Demichelis: I’ll answer this week

Malaga defender Martin Demichelis says he will give an answer to the club’s offer of a new contract this week.

The Argentine international, who has been linked with a return to former club River Plate, says he is still in a dilemma over where he will be playing his football next term.

“I’ve had an offer from Malaga on the table for over a month and I might already have made up my mind, but that has nothing to do with the financial side of things,” the 32-year-old told Radio Cooperativa.

“From a professional point of view it would be wrong of me to start from scratch with any team I decide to play for.

“In this case River Plate begin pre-season training on July 8 and in Europe it commences at practically the same time, so I will respond to any offer before then.

“Obviously my dream is to retire wearing a River Plate shirt. I’ve said since I went to Europe that I wanted to return and that was where my heart lay.

“However, the figures that have been mentioned are not true. I’m not saying whether or not I’m worth it, but to imply I was offered €1m in my hand and €750,000-a-year is totally absurd.

“I’m still dreaming of retiring at River but I can’t allow myself to be cast as the bad guy in all of this,” he explained.
