Torres ‘desperate’ to beat Brazil

Fernando Torres has insisted that Spain are 'desperate' to beat Brazil and win the Confederations Cup.

La Roja face the host nation at Maracana on Sunday evening, but the Chelsea striker knows it will not be an easy contest.

“We have really struggled to get there but I think suffering has been good for us because some people think that we have grown used to winning but now they can see that to get this far, we have really been forced to battle hard,” he told Efe.

“Just getting to Maracana was the first objective we set ourselves.

“Now, we are facing one last challenge, which is winning the trophy which has evaded us.

“Everyone is tagging us as favourites in every tournament we enter and some think that we have to be in the final by default but they forget how difficult it is to reach the final.

“The Italy game was evidence of that.”

The forward then went on to praise goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

“He put in one of those performances which just make you think that we’re so lucky to have a keeper like him.

“He was decisive for us and saved us when Italy were making us suffer. He brought us luck and I am thrilled for him.”
